By Aaron Humes: On Friday, police discovered the partially burned body of 37-year-old Darwin Chavarria, not far from his torched Ford Mariner vehicle on the Water Hole Road in Punta Gorda Town, Toledo District.
The vehicle had been found first on Thursday morning, and later in the day police took a missing person report on Chavarria and initiated an investigation.
When interviewed, police said today, Chavarria’s common-law wife said she had come home to find her partner missing and her house apparently ransacked.
Chavarria, whose body displayed gunshot wounds and whose hands were tied, was believed to be involved in a rivalry with other persons, and there is a possible drug connection, but those are two of several leads police are pursuing. Police declined to give any information on potential suspects; their investigations continue.
