By BBN Staff: On Sunday, the United States Embassy in Belize delivered over 8,000 pounds of medical equipment to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH).
The equipment, valued at over U.S. $10,000, was a donation from Heineman Medical Outreach (HMO), a nonprofit based in Charlotte, N.C.
The medical equipment was transported to Belize on a C-17 Globemaster U.S. military aircraft through the U.S. government’s Denton Humanitarian Assistance Program.
Major Matthew Adams represented the U.S. Embassy at the delivery.
The Denton Humanitarian Assistance Program transports humanitarian cargo donated by U.S.-based non-governmental organizations on U.S. military aircraft.
The Embassy noted that through the last 35 years, millions of pounds of cargo have been delivered to countries around the world through the program.
During the last 10 years, HMO has provided a fully equipped cardiac catheterization laboratory, supported the training of personnel to work in the laboratory, donated operating room equipment for cardiac surgeries and supported the first open-heart surgery in Belize in 2012.
