By BBN Staff: Taiwan has recorded its first local case of COVID-19 in 250 days, CNN reported.

Taiwan has been recognized for having one of the most successful pandemic responses in the world.

Taiwan’s Ministry of Health said that a female patient in her 30’s was infected after having contact with a foreign pilot who also tested positive for COVID-19.

Since April 12, the island has been COVID-19 free with only imported cases being reported.

Those arriving in Taiwan must go into quarantine and people who test positive are isolated and given treatment.

The total number of confirmed cases so far is 770.

The island of 23 million people has been seen as a global leader for its response to COVID-19.

The success of its COVID-19 response has allowed for the country to re-open and return to some sort of normalcy.

Some strict measures have helped in the response.

A man who was found breaching quarantine for 8 seconds was fined $3,500 by Taiwanese authorities.
