Police: No drug plane landed at Sarteneja

Posted: Thursday, December 24, 2020. 6:00 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Whether by luck or device, Police did not have to report on a drug plane landing in the North of Belize earlier this week.

Reports ran rampant over the weekend that such a plane landed near Sarteneja village, Corozal District, according to Mexican news sources.

But Police Commissioner Chester Williams says the Department’s eagle eyes are always on the lookout for such illicit cargo: “We have searched the area properly, and there is no plane that had landed in that area.”

The Commissioner said that a plane landed in Mexican territory the previous night, and there is always the possibility that the traffickers were trying to throw the police off, or changed their plans at the last minute.

Almost every night, police follow up on radar tracks for planes headed to this region and have managed to intercept a few, or changed their landing plans at the very least.
