COVID-19 Update – 2 deaths, 120 new cases and 148 recoveries reported on Christmas Eve; Cayo dominates with 55 new cases

By BBN Staff: On Christmas Eve, 2 deaths and 120 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Belize. However, there were 148 recoveries also reported leaving 1,181 cases active.

Of the 120 new cases, the Cayo district had the most with 55, and the Belize district was second with 29 and Stann Creek was third with 20 new cases. With 15 new cases, Belize City dominated in the Belize district and 6 new cases were identified in the prison at the Kolbe Foundation.

In the Cayo district, Belmopan had 8 new cases and the twin towns had 6.  Hope Creek dominated the cases in the Stann Creek district with 8 new cases. In the other districts, notably Corozal, Toledo and Orange Walk districts, the new cases were 7, 6 and 2, respectively.

In it’s Christmas Eve COVID-19 update, the general public is advised to follow the Public Health advice and adhere to the Isolation/Quarantine guidelines if you test positive.

In addition, the Ministry of Health and Wellness recommends that “if you have difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, or chest pain, seek medical attention immediately. Please call our toll free 0-800-MOH-CARE (0-800-664-2273) number for help if needed during this extended holiday weekend’.
