More than 1.76 million COVID-19 deaths recorded worldwide as pandemic enters its second year

By BBN Staff: The COVID-19 pandemic is beginning its second year, with over 1.76 million deaths worldwide, according to Worldometer.

The latest COVID-19 tally as of 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 27, 2020, said that global deaths stood at 1,768,844.

Global infections had climbed to 80.92 million, with the number of currently active cases going up to 21,936,388. Of the reactive cases, 105,244 (around 0.5 percent) are listed as being in either serious or critical condition.

Meanwhile, over 57.11 million people have recovered from the virus.

The US has over 19.4 million cases with more than 340,000 Americans losing their lives to the virus. India has recorded more than 10.2 million cases and 147,907 deaths; and Brazil 7.46 million cases, 190461 deaths.

Belize has recorded around 10,490 cases along with over 228 deaths.
