First case of new COVID-19 mutation found in USA

By BBN Staff: A first case of new, highly contagious COVID-19 variant that was first discovered in Britain has now been found in Colorado, USA, Forbes reports.

The new variant was found in a man who is in his 20’s.

Officials say that the man has no travel history which places him at odds with other patients in Europe. So far, officials have not identified any close contacts and the patient remains in self isolation.

Researchers say that the new variant is 56% more contagious than other versions of the virus.

As of last week, the new variant was responsible for a surge in COVID-19 infections in London.

Since then, many countries have banned or restricted travel from the United Kingdom.

Pharmaceutical companies believe that the COVID-19 vaccines being distributed in the USA are likely effective against the new variant of the virus.
