Police investigating mom’s death in an apparent traffic accident

By Aaron Humes: A driver could face prosecution in the death of a Corozal mom during the holiday weekend.

Ralph Ruiz is under investigation in the death of Cecilia Nah, whom he allegedly knocked down while attempting to avoid knocking down her two children on the Patchakan-Xaibe Road on Christmas night, around 7:30 p.m.

Ruiz was driving a Nissan Xterra going south on the road when the children ran into his lane. He veered into the other lane but could not avoid Nah, who died at the Corozal Community Hospital. The family lives in the settlement of Caan Lum located between the two major villages.

Nah was confirmed to be heavily under the influence of alcohol at the time of her death; samples were taken from Ruiz to determine if he was as well.
