By BBN Staff: The People’s United Party (PUP)’s northern caucus issued a statement expressing its support for sugarcane farmers.
The leaders of the caucus met on Monday in San Narciso Village to discuss the issue of the production estimates proposed by the Sugar Cane Production Committee (SCPC) and the meeting held by the Sugar Industry Control Board (SICB).
The SICB, after listening to the legitimate concerns of cane farmers regarding the revised production estimates presented by the SCPC, instructed the Manager of the SCPC to implement the adjustments to the production estimates tabled and agreed on at the meeting of the SICB.
The SICB Chairman also mandated that the starting date of the crop be published in the Gazette as per the Sugar Cane Act.
The PUP noted that its representatives agreed that all decisions affecting the sugar cane industry should be made only in the best interest of all stakeholders in this important industry.
“The PUP Representatives of the Orange Walk and Corozal Districts will remain vigilant to ensure that our farmers are at no time disadvantaged based on decisions made by any one institution in the industry. The PUP Northern Caucus is committed to the Manifesto promise of the last General Elections: Everybody fi Win! ¡Todos Ganamos,” a statement from the caucus said.
