Searches not called off for missing Dangriga fishermen off Southern Long Caye

By Aaron Humes: Boat captain Omar ‘Wak’ Thompson, 42, accompanied by Brenton ‘Braka’ Brackett, 29; Leon Joseph Diaz, 19; and Jeffrey Gomez, 25, are still missing at sea and were last heard from approximately 17 days ago.

Police and other authorities have not called off searches for them, and the effort continues in “reduced” form, police said today.

Thompson, Brackett and Diaz left Dangriga on December 11 in ‘Life’, an 18-foot skiff, to pick up Gomez on Long Caye. They were expected to stay out for three days, but have not checked in since December 12.

Attempts to contact the quartet by phone have been met with voicemail and searches by family members and the Coast Guard have turned up no trace of them so far.

Police have widened their avenues of enquiry into what happened to the four fishermen, including a belief that they may have come to harm and that the murder of Errol Gomez on Christmas morning may be related.
