U.S. Nurse tests positive for COVID-19 after receiving vaccine

Posted: Wednesday, December 30, 2020. 9:34 am CST.

By BBN Staff: A nurse from San Diego, California who received the Pfizer vaccine on December 18 has tested positive for COVID-19, ABC News reports.

According to the nurse, the only side effect he experienced was arm soreness.

Just a week after receiving the vaccine, he was working a shift in the COVID-19 unit when he began to experience symptoms of COVID-19.

Infectious disease specialist with Family Health Centers, Dr. Christian Ramers said that data from clinical trials suggest that it would take 10 to 14 days for patients to begin to develop protection from the vaccine.

After those 10 to 14 days, patients would need a second vaccine dose for full protection.

Since the incubation period is 14 days, it can be that the nurse had Covid-19 prior to being vaccinated, Ramers said.
