One hundred COVID-19 deaths in December

Posted: Thursday, December 31, 2020. 7:02 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The Ministry of Health and Wellness has reported that six more Belizeans have died from COVID-19, making the month of December the deadliest for the virus in Belize, with 100 deaths total.

The MOHW’s data showed that the six new deaths take the national total up to 248 and the country’s fatality rate up to 2.30.

Belize had closed the month of November with 148 deaths, with the first two dating back to mid-March when the pandemic had first reached Belize.

The virus has proven to kill indiscriminately, with its youngest Belizean victim being only six years old and several victims in their 70’s. Belizeans have lost spouses, siblings, relatives, and friends to COVID-19 while the country has lost, doctors, nurses, police officers, and even an area representative to the virus.

BBN reminds all Belizeans that the COVID-19 pandemic is a serious situation and should be treated with the utmost concern. BBN joins with authorities in strongly urging all Belizeans to follow the established protocols for the prevention of COVID-19.
