By BBN Staff: UNICEF Belize continues to support the Ministry of Health and Wellness in their national COVID-19 response.

On Wednesday, 2 TaqPath COVID-19 Calibration Kits valued at U.S. $19,500 dollars were delivered.

Director of the Laboratory Services, Juvencio Chan and Laboratory Supervisor, Aldo Sosa at the Central Medical Laboratory received the kits that will be used to ensure quality control of the PCR machine.

Chan explained that the kits are important to the self-check diagnostic features of the machine and ensures the validity of testing results. As the volume of tests increases it is important to maintain quality control.

“Quality assurance in our testing protocols ensures quality results,” Chan said.

Monitoring and Evaluation Officer for UNICEF Belize, Paulette Wade explained that the donations will include equipment, personal protective gears and other supplies for frontline workers.

“UNICEF Belize’s support to the Ministry of Health and Wellness is comprehensive as we seek to meet the gaps in needs along the health continuum. In a critical time like this when the resources of the health system are taxed, our goal is to support partners in maintaining adequate health care while responding to the COVID-19 pandemic,” Wade shared.
