By Aaron Humes: We go into 2021 remembering those we lost in 2020.

Prominent Belizeans to have died during the year include COVID-19 victims Hubert Pipersburgh, Drs. Kevin and Kenneth Guerra, and David “Dido” Vega.

Lost to gun violence was Orin “Bredda O” Velasquez as well as Terrence Crawford, shot while turning his life around by working at a newly renovated mechanic shop in St Martin de Porres, Belize City. Economist, businessman and contributor to BBN Richard Harrison died in a traffic accident.

Author Zee Edgell died in December of cancer in Los Angeles, as did former Governor-General Dame Minita Gordon.

Outside Belize, prominent personalities whose deaths we covered in this space include basketball superstar Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna, two of eight passengers killed in a helicopter crash in late January; actor Chadwick Boseman, claimed too early by cancer; singer Kenny Rogers, who broke even in his sleep as he once prophesied in his signature song “The Gambler,” and actor Sean Connery, the original – and many say, the best – James Bond, among many other roles in a stellar career on screen and stage.

May they all rest in peace, and may we all live to enjoy 2021. We here at Breaking Belize News hope to be here to cover it all for you.
