By BBN Staff: The COVID-19 global pandemic has begun its second year and up to this point, more than 85 million people have been infected, according to Worldometer.
The latest COVID-19 statistics as of 8:00 a.m. today, January 3, 2021, shows that there have been 85,062,147 confirmed infections. Of the total, there are still over 23 million active cases still active, with 106,026 (0.5 percent) listed as serious/critical.
While over 1.8 million people have died due to complications related to the virus, more than 60 million people have managed to recover from it.
The United States, which has been the hardest-hit country in the world by the pandemic has is steadily approaching 21 million confirmed infections and has seen 358,704 COVID-19 deaths.
India, which saw a drastic rise in the number of cases towards the third quarter of 2020, remains the second hardest-hit country in the world by the number of infections, with over 10.3 million confirmed cases and 149,471 deaths.
Brazil, the third hardest-hit country in the world by the number of infections, has over 7.7 million confirmed cases. However, it remains the second hardest-hit by way of deaths relating to COVID-19, with a total of 195,742.
Belize has seen 10,807 confirmed cases with 249 deaths related to the virus.
