By BBN Staff: Despite repeated pleas from authorities, violations of quarantine regulations continue, with over 180 arrests made over the New Year’s weekend, according to Commissioner of Police Chester Williams.
Williams issued an update this morning, noting that officers arrested and charged 187 people for various quarantine regulation violations with the breakdown as follows:
Breach of curfew-85 people
Failing to wear a face mask or other face (mouth) covering whilst in public-54 people
Attending a restricted social event-30 people
Cross District Movement- 7 people
Failing to properly wear a face mask or other face (mouth) covering whilst in public – 4 people
Hosting a restricted social event-3 people
Entering Belize illegally-3 people
and Failing to practice social distancing-1 person.
In his New Year’s message, Williams had stressed that the pandemic did not end with the year 2020, and that Belizeans must continue to be vigilant in order to stop the spread of the virus.
