Caribbean starts new year with almost 368,000 COVID-19 cases

By BBN Staff: The latest update for confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Caribbean, provided by the media outlet Loop, shows that the region is starting out the new year with almost 368,000 cases.

Loop reports that as of Janaury 4, the total confirmed cases for the Caribbean stood at 367,904.

The breakdown for the regional cases, deaths, and recoveries is as follows:

Dominican Republic- 173,331 cases, 2418 deaths, 132,935 recoveries;

Puerto Rico- 73,957 cases, 1555 deaths; 

French Guiana- 13,288 cases, 71 deaths, 9995 recovered;

Jamaica- 13,049 cases, 304 deaths, 10,833 recovered; 

Cuba- 12,424 cases, 147 deaths, 10,676 recovered; 

Belize- 10,901 cases, 250 deaths, 9,994 recovered;

Haiti- 10,127 cases, 236 deaths, 8672 recovered; 

Guadeloupe- 8,660 cases, 154 deaths, 2,242 recovered; 

Bahamas- 7,914 cases, 175 deaths, 6239 recovered; 

Trinidad and Tobago- 7168 cases, 127 deaths, 6690 recovered; 

Suriname- 6393 cases, 123 deaths, 5883 recovered; 

Guyana- 6358 cases, 164 deaths, 5899 recovered; 

Martinique- 6091 cases, 43 deaths, 98 recovered; 

Aruba- 5564 cases, 49 deaths, 5209 recovered; 

Curacao- 4317 cases, 16 deaths, 3170 recovered; 

US Virgin Islands- 2041 cases, 23 deaths, 1920 recovered; 

Sint Maarten- 1462 cases, 27 deaths, 1360 recovered; 

Saint Martin- 995 cases, 12 deaths, 855 recovered; 

Turks and Caicos- 910 cases, 6 deaths, 783 recovered; 

Bermuda- 622 cases, 10 deaths, 478 recovered; 

Barbados- 556 cases, 7 deaths, 319 recovered; 

Saint Lucia- 353 cases, 5 deaths, 289 recovered; 

Cayman Islands- 338 cases, 2 deaths, 294 recovered; 

Bonaire- 225 cases, 3 deaths, 157 recovered; 

Saint Barthelemy- 190 cases, 1 death, 172 recovered; 

Antigua and Barbuda- 160 cases, 5 deaths, 148 recovered; 

Grenada- 127 cases, 1 death, 107 recovered;  

St Vincent and the Grenadines- 124 cases, 100 recovered; 

Dominica- 88 cases, 83 recovered; 

British Virgin Islands- 86 cases, 1 death, 74 recovered; 

Saint Kitts and Nevis- 33 cases, 31 recovered;

Sint Eustatius- 19 cases, 19 recovered; 

Anguilla-15 cases, 13 recovered; 

Montserrat- 13 cases, 1 death, 12 recovered;  

and Saba- 5 cases, 5 recovered.
