By BBN Staff: The Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW) announced today that there was a COVID-19 outbreak at its residential care facility, the Palm View Center in Belmopan.
“The Palm View Center is a mental health facility with a total of 27 residents. The facility is reporting that 21 residents and seven staff have tested positive for COVID-19 since yesterday. No deaths have been reported in connection with the outbreak as of January 4, 2021,” the MOH said.
The MOHW said that it has tested all patients and staff and will be following up according to its testing guidelines which have helped to stabilize the situation and ensure the wellbeing of everyone at the facility.
Following the discovery of the outbreak, staff and residents who do not have serious symptoms were medically isolated but not hospitalized, while those who tested negative for the virus have been relocated to another building on the property.
“The Center has prepared for the possibility of outbreaks as has been the case at other vulnerable settings. The Ministry of Health and Wellness is providing clear guidance for the facility in responding and controlling the spread of COVID-19,” the Ministry added.
The Ministry also reiterated its plea to the public to adhere to the established protocols to stop the spread of COVID-19, which include wearing a face mask properly, maintaining consistent physical distancing, and frequent hand washing as well as sanitizing.
