Morgue mixup: Grieving family given wrong body to bury

Posted: Tuesday, January 5, 2021. 8:53 am CST.

By BBN Staff: A bereaved Orange Walk family is suffering additional grief as the Northern Regional Hospital (NRH) reportedly gave them the wrong body for burial.

The family of the late Fernando Cante, who died on December 30, said they went to the NRH to pick up his body following the results of a posthumous COVID-19 test, to find someone else’s body in the casket.

To further complicate the issue, authorities are unsure what happened to Cante’s body and gave the family two possible locations where he might have been buried, Ladyville or Trial Farm Village.

The family has thus far expressed its outrage over social media, while the Ministry of Health and Wellness has yet to make an official statement on the issue.

This is a developing story.
