Director of Public Prosecutions makes a rare application in court for a search warrant

An in-camera hearing was held yesterday, Tuesday, before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford on an application for a search warrant.

Details have been closely held and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Cheryl-Lynn Vidal, would not speak to reporters after personally making the application in the afternoon.

DPP Vidal appeared before Senior Magistrate Ford to explain why she was at court and was allowed to formally file the application for hearing.

As it began, this reporter was not allowed to remain in the courtroom, which the Senior Magistrate indicated was standard for hearings like this one.

We have since been made to understand that the matter has to do with a planned search of premises that has yet to be executed. A source says hearings in-camera are sometimes related to matters involving the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) or having to do with minors.
