Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital scales up surveillance for COVID-19

Posted: Wednesday, January 6, 2021. 4:46 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital Authority (KHMHA) announced today that it has scaled up its surveillance for SARS Cov-2, the virus responsible for the disease COVID-19, with respect to admissions.

The KHMHA said that all potential patients being admitted for care at the KHMHA will undergo a rapid SARS CoV-2 test which may result in a PCR confirmation test. The hospital authorities also said that all patients scheduled for surgical intervention will require a SARS CoV-2 PCR confirmation.

“This has become necessary as a part of our efforts to assure the health and safety of our patients and staff. We continue to ask the public’s kind assistance and understanding in adherence to these protocols as we continue to offer our highest level of care to you,” the KHMHA said.

The announcement comes at a time where COVID-19 infections in Belize are nearing 11,000, according to data coming from the Ministry of Health and Wellness.
