Leader of the Opposition hits back on good governance motion by Government

By Aaron Humes: “Bring the legislation,” Leader of the Opposition Patrick Faber challenged the Government this afternoon as the House of Representatives debated the Good Governance in Belize Motion, 2021.

Faber called the motion listing the various regulations to be made “a nonsense paper” without the backing legislation.

And the Government’s track record thus far – with appointments of various relatives to key positions – does not augur well.

Faber pointed out that he is not here to defend the actions of the previous administration – “wrong is wrong”, he said.

But for the Government to get on the right foot, he said, they will have to do better.

In response, Minister Kareem Musa defended his sister-in-law, Director of Health Services Dr. Melissa Diaz Musa, whom he said had the hardest job at present in managing the COVID-19 pandemic.

Unlike the previous administration’s favours to the now area representative for Mesopotamia and the former wife of the Prime Minister, not to mention another son, Musa said, the Government of the day has proven it is committed to good governance “whether you like it or not.”
