By BBN Staff: The Belize Police Association Elected a new Central Board this week, and Corporal Eldon Arzu, the officer that took the Commissioner to court over losing the 2020 election, is appealing the decision.
There were 838 votes cast, with Arzu and his slate reportedly taking a decisive loss to Sergeant Jermaine Hyde and his team.
However, Arzu said he has major issues with the way the election was carried out and has already begun the appeal process.
Arzu filed a verbal notice of appeal following the election results on Wednesday and submitted an appeal notice in writing on Thursday.
Arzu, who had previously been association president for 14 years, had applied for judicial review of the elections held in 2020, noting that Commissioner of Police Chester Willaims has deferred the date of the elections, allowing for other contenders to enter the race for the presidency. He then lost to Sgt. Jane Usher, who later demitted the post due to a promotion.
