By Aaron Humes: Prime Minister John Briceño has assured that the Government is not going on a wild spending spree for new vehicles for the service.
Speaking to reporters yesterday, he confirmed that a total of five new vehicles – smaller pickup trucks in the vein of Ford and Toyota – had been bought for $360,000 – a far cry from the reported “fleet” of vehicles some alleged were bought.
The vehicles were bought, Briceño said, mainly to replace the “good vehicles” sold off by the previous administration, which left behind “junk that you can’t use.”
“Many of us are using our own vehicles; I am using my own vehicle. I have not had the Government buy a new vehicle for me because simply because we don’t have the money, so we cannot be buying luxurious vehicles. When I hear of people in the Opposition – and some in the media – are saying that we have bought vehicles that cost over $200,000, that’s an absolute lie,” Briceño continued.
Briceño did note that some Government CEOs are using their vehicle allowances to buy new vehicles, so only technically can some say the Government is paying for those.
