Classes resume virtually; educators urged to fully engage students

Posted: Monday, January 11, 2021. 10:16 am CST.

By BBN Staff: Today marks the resumption of virtual classes for the 2020-2021 school year.

During the unprecedented times of the COVID-19 pandemic, educators and parents continue to adapt to virtual classes for pre, primary and high school classes.

Since March of 2020, classes were called off due to the rise in COVID-19 cases and the lockdown.

At the time, educators opted for learning packages, Whatsapp communications and Google classroom to reach students.

A memorandum from the Ministry of Education advised educators of all pre, primary, secondary schools and ITVET’s to report to work on Monday’s and/or such days as agreed by management but not to exceed 2 days per week.

“Teachers are expected to fully engage in their teaching responsibilities on every normal school day, whether they are at school or working from home,” the memo noted.

It added that teachers working from home are also expected to be available during normal school hours to attend calls and messages from administrators, students, virtual meetings and submit reports.

The Ministry says that it recognizes the challenges of providing educational and psychosocial support to students during this pandemic.
