Police find over 40 pounds of weed in a broken-down taxi van

By BBN Staff: Police made a seizable drug bust on Saturday when they searched a broken-down taxi near Sandhill.

The officers had stopped to render assistance after seeing the vehicle on the side of the road but then picked up the strong scent of marijuana.

They searched the vehicle and found parcels of weed inside, so they had it towed to Ladyville and asked a mechanic to start it up. The mechanic, upon inspecting the gas tank, found additional parcels of weed which brought the total up to 33.

Police weighed the drugs which totaled 47 pounds (21.4 kilos).

Officers have detained the driver of the taxi and his common-law wife.
