Gang rivalry behind latest gun attack in Belize City

By Aaron Humes: Last Friday 25-year-old William Archilla, a resident of Youth for the Future Drive in Belize City was shot and injured.

Police say that at around 6:58 p.m. Archilla was standing in front of a home on Ebony Street. A black car pulled up at the Youth for the Future Drive intersection; someone got out and fired several gunshots at Archilla who was injured to the body, and rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.

At Monday’s press briefing Senior Superintendent Hilberto Romero, the deputy head of the National Criminal Investigations Branch, said police have traced the origin of the shooting to related gang activity in the immediate area – that Archilla, known to them from previous encounters, was attacked by rivals from another area.

Investigations continue.
