By Aaron Humes: The House of Representatives has voted to impeach President Donald Trump for “incitement of insurrection” in connection with the incident last week at the U.S. Capitol.

Democrats were joined by ten Republicans in support, indicating erosion of the President’s support as he leaves office.

The Senate will try him but likely after successor Joe Biden becomes president this time next week.

In the debate, Democrats argued that Trump’s speech to protesters in Washington along with prior statements that November’s presidential election was “stolen” from him spurred some of them to disrupt the certification of electoral college votes then ongoing.

Five persons died including a police officer, while hundreds more have been arrested.

Trump has shown little remorse for what happened though appealed to supporters today not to cause further violence ahead of Biden’s inauguration.

While Trump will be out of office when the Senate is ready to try him, a conviction – requiring 2/3 approval of Senators, would bar him from running for federal office. Trump has announced a presidential bid for 2024.

More on this later.
