Over 3,000 people applying for just over 200 spaces in the Belize Police Department

By BBN Staff: The Belize Police Department is hosting the entrance examination for police quad intake #95 this weekend, and sources in the department say over 3,000 people have reportedly applied for the 225 available spaces on the squad.

The examination is scheduled to be held countrywide on Saturday, January 16 at designated testing sites in each district. The police department has issued lists and supplementary lists for each district showing the number of approved persons to sit the exam on its Facebook page and posted printed copies of the lists in police stations and precincts in all six districts.

The lists show a total of 2,457 people out of the initial applicants will be allowed to sit the exam, with the Belize district, particularly Belize City dominating both the initial and supplementary lists with 985 and 86 applicants respectively.

Cayo had the second-largest number of applicants sitting the exam, 482 on the initial list, and also had 20 on the supplementary list. Meanwhile, Toledo has 328 applicants and an additional 5; Corozal has 222 and an additional 23, and Orange Walk has 174 and an additional 14. The large number of applicants speaks largely to the number of Belizeans that are currently looking for work. Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries, Kareem Musa, noted that some of the applicants for intake #95 are coming with Bachelor’s Degrees, further emphasizing the severity of the situation.

The exam begins in all testing centers at 7:00 a.m.
