Cordel Hyde to public officers: If you want to help poor people, then we’ll be good

By BBN Staff: In an interview with the media, Minister of Natural Resources, Cordel Hyde sent a clear message to public officers.

Hyde said that if public officers are about helping people, then they are good, but if they are about getting rich and only worried about themselves, then that wont work.

“As I said in the House meeting last week to our public officers and would-be public officers, if you want to help poor people and give them a chance to own a piece of land, then we’ll be good. But if that’s not what you are into and you just want to get rich and all you are worried about is yourself, then we are going to be bad. But it is the tall order and the task we have to change the culture and make sure that this department works for ordinary people,” Hyde said.

Hyde’s portfolio- that of Natural Resources under which falls the Lands department is widely known for land scam deals under the previous administration.

Hyde said that he is there to change the entire culture of the Lands department.

“Make sure that ordinary people, who have long been disenfranchised, long been disadvantaged, long been voiceless and landless and hopeless that they get an opportunity to own something,” Hyde said.
