By BBN: The cycling community in Belize is mourning the loss of one of its long-standing members, Conrad Vincent Smith.

The Cycling Federation of Belize (CFB) announced Smith’s passing yesterday, offering condolences and recounting some of his notable achievements.

Smith was a two-time second-place winner in the Holy Saturday Cross Country Classic, coming in alongside big names such as Alpheus Williams and Lindy Gillett. Smith was also a part of a team that represented Belize for a week of Cycling in Guatemala, back in 1980.

His passing is just another blow to the community, which has been having a rough time since the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted its major events including canceling the KREM New Year’s Classic, a signature event that starts off the annual cycling calendar.

The CFB said that he will be fondly remembered as a “pacer.”

BBN offers its condolences to the family and friends of the late Conrad Vincent Smith. May he rest in peace.
