By Aaron Humes: President of the Bar Association of Belize, Illiana Swift, urged a reduction and end to delays in the judicial system, COVID-19 notwithstanding.
Two weeks of virtual hearings at the Court of Appeal; constantly delayed and incomplete judgments at the Supreme Court and elsewhere cannot be tolerated, she said, as it would be a greater injustice to Belizeans who count on the system to deliver.
She looked forward to more judges being appointed; more systems for judicial administration; better representation by attorneys and more cooperation at all levels.
Swift observed that while the phrase ‘2020 is an unprecedented year’ has become hackneyed, it is now precedent for 2021.
