By BBN Staff: A caravan of Honduran migrants that entered Guatemala last week has dissolved after confrontations with Guatemalan armed forces.
Small groups of people still made their way to the Mexican border but others accepted a ride from authorities back to their home country, the Associated Press reports.
The economic situation paired with economic hurdles due to COVID-19 continue to affect the Central American nation.
According to reports, with the U.S. Election, there was hope that President Joe Biden would welcome the caravan.
Buses carrying migrants took them to the Guatemala-Honduras border.
Guatemalan authorities say that over 2,300 migrants had returned to Honduras.
Mexican and Guatemalan authorities had prepared with boots on the ground to prevent the caravans from entering their countries.
