By BBN Staff: The inauguration ceremony for U.S. President Joe Biden and Vice President, Kamala Harris was held today in Washington.

On his first day in office, Biden proposes a new immigration plan that provides a pathway for citizenship for millions of undocumented immigrants, CNN reports.

The plan includes the improvement of technology use at the borders. This plan will be sent to Congress today.

During his campaign, Biden promised immigration reform, a direct counter to the Trump’s administration’s anti-immigration policies.

The plan would allow certain undocumented immigrants to achieve citizenship within eight years.

The immigrants would be given temporary status for 5 years, then allow them to apply for green cards once they met the criteria, followed by citizenship 3 years later.

Dreamers would benefit since that path would be streamlined allowing them to apply for a green card immediately.

The plan would include immigrants who have been in the US at the beginning of 2021.

There is also anticipation that Biden will issue an order to stop the construction of the wall.
