National Institute of Culture and History announces reopening of archaeological reserves

By BBN Staff: Major archaeological reserves have reopened, according to an announcement issued today by the National Institute of Culture and History (NICH).

NICH issued a notice at 6:30 a.m. saying that the Nohoch Che’en and Barton Creek archaeological reserves are open. The Xunantunich archaeological reserve is also open, with pedestrian crossing at the ferry.

“The ATM(Actun Tunichil Muknal) reserve is closed due to a flash flood,” NICH said.

All other reserves are open as normal. NICH also asked visitors to the sites to continue adhearing to all COVID-19 prevention protocols.
