By Aaron Humes: The Opposition United Democratic Party has called the press to its headquarters for its first major press conference of 2021.

Leader of the Opposition Patrick Faber is flanked by Chairman and Opposition Senate Leader Michael Peyrefitte, Senator Sheena Pitts and Mesopotamia representative Shyne Barrow as well as former aspirant and attorney Orson Elrington.

The panel had much to say about the state of affairs in the first weeks of the John Briceño administration.

Barrow challenged Minister of Human Development Dolores Balderamos Garcia on the handling of the Pantry and Food Assistance Program, arguing that their attitude is one of “everyone can’t get” and that under the UDP, at least no one starved.

Leader Faber says there has been more firings than plans to hire to date – and he doesn’t buy the suggestion that the Government is trying to save money for reinvestment in the fight against COVID-19. It smells too much like political victimization, he said.

And former Attorney General Michael Peyrefitte warned that the Government must regularize the curfew as it was not intended to be a burden on the population.

Faber revealed that teachers have been told that paid study leave will be restricted.

We’ll have more coming up.
