BBN Spotlight premiers today: Silas Sabal talks about the medicine of music

Posted: Sunday, January 24, 2021. 1:11 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Following the success of the Sunday Vibes DJ Linkup, Breaking Belize News is bringing you BBN Spotlight, a new live stream dedicated to promoting Belizean artists, musicians, and influential people in the artistic community.

The show takes an interview format that places emphasis on the artist’s origins, motivation, and contribution to their craft. Hosted by the renowned DJ and social media personality Mistah Ghee, the show premiers today with the first guest Silas Sabal also known as “Maestro.”

Grief at the loss of a loved one, depression, serious physical injury, and even bullying, all help shape the experience of this Paranda/Punta Rock artist, who says that in his darkest hours music became his medicine.

“Growing up I faced a lot of discrimination, I was bullied a lot and music was the way out for me,” Sabal said. “All of the experiences I went through, I started to put it in music.”

Apart from thought-provoking music, Sabal proved his versatility by winning the 2010 patriotic song competition and working alongside artist Galicha on the popular song “Que no pare” in 2014.

Sabal will be previewing two of his latest tracks on today’s show, which will be streamed on Breaking Belize News’ Facebook page from 3:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.
