Police find “criminal wrongdoing” in Ministry of Works investigation

Posted: Monday, January 25, 2021. 5:52 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: “We are seeing some degree of criminal wrongdoing…” Police Commissioner Chester Williams confirmed today, having read some of the statements his investigators obtained last week in an ongoing investigation sparked by the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing.

Police have been recording statements since last week and the Commissioner said that as soon as the investigators have completed their work and put the file together it will be submitted to Director of Public Prosecutions Cheryl-Lynn Vidal.

The Commissioner refused to say whether former Government Ministers Rene Montero or Anthony “Boots” Martinez were implicated but promised further updates when the file is complete.

Officers went to a property a few days ago to recover a steel gate used for horse racing in Santa Elena, which Montero denied holding. Police have previously recovered equipment both from properties linked to Montero and Martinez, both of whom have denied criminal responsibility.
