COVAX plans for the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine

Posted: Tuesday, January 26, 2021. 9:49 am CST.

By BBN Staff: World Health Organization (WHO)’s COVAX program announced the signing of a purchase agreement for 40 million doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

In addition, almost 150 million doses of the AstraZeneca/Oxford candidate are anticipated to be available in the first quarter of 2021.

The COVAX program is a global initiative to ensure rapid and equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines for all countries, regardless of income level.

COVAX also confirmed today that it will exercise an option – via an existing agreement with Serum Institute of India (SII) – to receive its first 100 million doses of the AstraZeneca/Oxford University-developed vaccine manufactured by SII.

Economies eligible for support via the COVAS AMC will receive the vaccines.

The COVAX program aims to provide all 190 participating nations with an allocation of vaccine doses by the end of January.
