By Aaron Humes: The Football Federation of Belize (FFB) says Saturday’s congregation of footballers at the Banana Bank Lodge was a “fitness test” of the National Senior Football Team, the Jaguars.
While FFB has been searching for ways to keep athletes physically active and healthy, most recently launching the Evo Soccer platform which aims to provide knowledge and skills to youth national team players, it asked 21 senior Jaguars to congregate in three zones of seven – North, Central and South for a 2.36-mile endurance and stamina run and 30-meter speed sprint.
The Federation says it enforced all safety measures and protocols.
From the results, which guide the selection of the team that will participate in the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar qualifiers starting in March, personalized training guidelines will be given to each team member.
No matter how much everyone misses competitive football, the Federation says it will refrain from encouraging players, coach, staff and fans to go against incumbent protocol.
