By Aaron Humes: Breaking Belize News has learned that as many as eight employees of the Belize City Council have called in sick to work this morning.
We are not clear if this is a formal declaration of industrial action that can only come from their Union, the Christian Worker’s Union (CWU), however each of the sick persons are union members.
The CWU and the Belize City Council are at odds over the latter’s delay in presenting their counterproposal to those issued by the CWU in October of 2019.
It is important to note that a majority, 95 percent of the Council’s staff are active and the work at City Hall continues.
We’ll keep following this story.
