Couple arraigned for crack possession: Boyfriend takes the charge

By Anita Nembhard-Flowers (Court Reporter): A Belize City couple appeared in court this morning for drug possession; however, the boyfriend was the only one to face consequences.

Chadrick Tingling, 41, and Tiffany Vernon, 36, appeared before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford after police found 1.1 grams of crack cocaine in their Fredrick Street home during a raid on Wednesday.

Tingling pleaded guilty to a single charge of possession of a controlled drug with the intent to supply to another, and was fined $800 plus a $5.00 cost of court, which he was ordered to pay by April 7, 2021, or face 8 months in jail.

Tingling had to pay $300 forthwith because he already owed the court $685. The court added his balance to his new fine and granted him an extension on payment.

At the trial, police prosecutor Sergeant Kennard Clark, noted that Tingling had four previous convictions for drug offenses which included drug possession and drug trafficking.

Senior Magistrate Ford warned him that another conviction for a drug offense could land him in jail instead of facing a fine.
