World Health Organization visits 2nd Hospital in Wuhan for COVID-19 investigation

By BBN Staff: A team of experts from the World Health Organization (WHO) that is investigating the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic visited a 2nd Wuhan hospital that treated early COVID-19 patients, the Associated Press reports.

In early 2020, Wuhan’s Jinyintan Hospital was one of the first to see patients suffering from the virus.

On Friday, the team met with Chinese scientists and visited another early site of the outbreak, Hubei Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine hospital.

WHO has indicated that the team plans to visits hospitals, markets and labs.

“All hypotheses are on the table as the team follows the science in their work to understand the origins of the COVID19 virus,” WHO tweeted.

Investigators could also look closely at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

It is one of China’s top virus research labs that built an archive of genetic information about bat coronaviruses after the 2003 outbreak of SARS, or severe acute respiratory syndrome.
