People’s United Party names slates for City, Belmopan, Twin Towns, Benque

By Aaron Humes: The ruling People’s United Party over the weekend hosted four delegate conventions to elect slates for the upcoming municipal elections in March for the cities of Belize and Belmopan and the towns of San Ignacio/Santa Elena and Benque Viejo del Carmen.

With Mayor of the Old Capital Bernard Wagner unchallenged, the blue tasked 726 constituency delegates with voting electronically at the Belize Elementary School auditorium on Saturday, using software developed by information technology instructor Godfrey Sosa and his students. The party hints that this “is sure to become a model software for future elections in Belize.”

Incumbent councilors Allan Pollard, Micah Goodin, Javier Castellanos, Albert Vaughan, and Michael Novelo were returned as aspirants in that order. They have been joined by Kaya Cattouse; Edmund Kwan; Deannie Requeña; Natasha Pipersburgh and Stephanne Michelle Hamilton, again in that order.

Out west on Sunday, PUP Belmopanese delegates numbering 283 named Sharon Palacio as Mayoral aspirant and Guadalupe Chicas; Sanie Cal; Nikki Augustine; Hope Amadi; Daren Swasey; and Pauline Soberanis Tillett as councilor aspirants.

The slate of aspirants in the Twin Towns is as follows: Ramon ‘Monchi’ Quiroz, Mayor; Matthew Preston; Aaron Mai; Shirlene Neal; Zahir Figueroa; Alberto Palma and Omar Rodriguez, councilors.

And in Benque Viejo del Carmen, Jorge Rosales was chosen as the Mayoral aspirant along with Councillor aspirants Vania Garcia; Edgar Cocom; Carlos Iglesias; Avelin Martinez; Teresita Alvarado; and Oscar Gongora.

This coming weekend, Party Delegates in Dangriga and Punta Gorda will participate in conventions to elect municipal council aspirants.
