By Anita Nembhard-Flowers (Court Reporter): Michael Faux, 34, and Erwin Lanza, 22, the last two escaped prisoners to be recaptured by police were given additional jail time when they appeared in court today.
The men were brought before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford, facing charges of escaping from the Belize Central Prison back in October 2020. They both pleaded guilty and Ford sentenced them to two years in prison to run consecutively with whatever sentences they were already facing.
The additional time means little to Faux, who was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment; however, Lanza was convicted of possession of a prohibited firearm and was sentenced to four years, bringing his total jail time up to six years.
Both men pleaded to the court stressing that they only escaped because of the conditions inside the prison.
