BNTU President: “ Nothing has changed in regards to nepotism”

Posted: Thursday, February 4, 2021. 2:56 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: In an interview with the media recently, President of the Belize National Teachers Union (BTNU), Elena Smith said that nothing has changed with regards to nepotism in government.

The new Briceno administration has been called out for nepotistic appointments and Smith says that the on-going cry that these things should not be happening since only a small group of people keep benefitting when a party is in government.

“There is a small group that benefits. The wider people are the ones who benefit the least or gets the least. Those are the ones who need it the most. I have to agree with you that what we have seen so far is showing that nothing has changed in that regard. So while you criticize the other one and say that this is what that they were doing, you come and do the same thing. What difference are you making?” Smith questioned.

The Opposition, UDP has published an advertisement aligning high ranking government officials with their relatives.
