Elderly man, 70, and three others charged with drug trafficking get bail

By BBN Staff: A 70-year-old Belize City man along with his family are out on bail tonight after being charged with drug trafficking in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today.

The family was charged for just over a pound of marijuana found in a yard on Bocotora Street. Senior Magistrate, Tricia Pitts-Anderson granted the elderly Horace Lord, his wife – Zeta Thomas, 45; their daughter, Kerean Moss, 37 and another relative Lawrence Mejia, 59, bail in the sum of $2,000.

Lord initially pleaded guilty to the court but stressed that the drugs were not his. He told the court that he was prepared to plead guilty so that his loved ones could go free; however, Pitts informed him that she cannot accept a guilty plea without him taking ownership of the drugs.

Pitts entered an equivocal plea on Lord’s behalf, while the others pleaded not guilty.

They are due back in court on April 7, 2021.

Police say that on Wednesday, cops searched Lord’s home and found nothing incriminating, then searched the yard and found the marijuana hidden in a jar under some linoleum on a septic tank.
