By BBN Staff: The opposition United Democratic Party is calling on the Government of Belize to “urgently” address the issue of rising gas prices in Belize.
The UDP issued a statement today, noting that the price of gas has increased six times since the Briceno administration took up office in November of 2020.
“The United Democratic Party calls on the government to urgently explore alternative means to increase revenue instead of relying solely on increasing the pump price of fuels,” the UDP said. “This is causing tremendous financial strain on the productive sector resulting in higher cost for goods and services thereby further crippling the Belizean economy.”
The party said that addressing the gas prices would safeguard Belizeans against the rising cost of living and serve as an incentive to the productive sector.
