By BBN Staff: On March 3, there will be a by-election for the Corozal Bay electoral division and the People’s United Party (PUP) made a historic move this week when it endorsed Elvia Vega-Samos, the first woman standard-bearer for that constituency, to contest the election.
Vega-Samos, the sister of the late Corozal Bay area representative David “Dido” Vega, had her endorsement convention on Saturday night. She goes up against the United Democratic Party’s candidate, former Corozal Town Mayor, Hilberto Campos.
Following her endorsement, PUP colleague and Caribbean Shores Area Representative, Kareem Musa took to social media to congratulate Vega-Samos on her endorsement.\
“Last night as I watched the endorsement of my dear colleague Elvie, I could not help but reflect on the warrior of the Bay, David ‘Dido’ Vega,” Musa said. “How proud he must feel to see the baton of the Bay passed to someone he loved with such similar vision and compassion for their people.”
The by-election became necessary after David Vega died in December 2020 of COVID-19, mere weeks after his November election victory.
