Mexican President holds first press conference since COVID-19 recovery, still won’t wear a mask

Posted: Tuesday, February 9, 2021. 11:13 am CST.

By BBN Staff: This week, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, held his first press conference since recovering from COVID-19 infection, but he still refused to wear a mask, reports Reuters.

Lopez Obrador, who was diagnosed with COVID-19 on January 24, held the conference on Monday, and true to his word, remained maskless.

“No, no,” the president said. “Additionally, according to what the doctors say, now I’m not contagious.”

He has been adamant on numerous occasions, despite recommendations from doctors and other entities within the scientific community about the protection they provide against the spread of the virus, and continues to hold his stance despite support for mask-wearing from his own government officials.

Lopez Obrador also noted that Mexico will not be imposing stricter regulations to curb the spread of the virus, despite having the third-largest death toll in the world (166,731 deaths).
